Exciting Activities that you can do in Italian Village

September 8, 2021

In terms of history, scenery, and unique items, Columbus’ historic Italian Village does not disappoint. Italian Village, one of Columbus’ original suburbs, was home to Irish, Italian, and Black immigrant settlers during the nineteenth century before enjoying substantial resurgence in the 1970s. Today, Italian Village is a mash-up of old and new. The village’s tiny brick lanes and Italianate row buildings retain the area’s history, while businesses like Tasi Cafe and STUMP set Italian Village apart from the rest of the Short North. Little Rock and St. James Bar Crawl

Little Rock Bar and St James provide a traditional pub atmosphere. Little Rock Bar boasts live acoustic music most nights of the week and 30 microbrews on tap, while St James’ jukebox has all of the classic rock and roll tunes for the ultimate rock and roll singalong.

Get a cup of coffee at Fox in the Snow.

Fox in the Snow is well-known for its coffee as well as its food, which includes sweet treats like cinnamon rolls and sticky buns, as well as hearty egg sandwiches and ham and cheese croissants. Fox in the Snow is also a fun site to take photos, thanks to its foxy emblem on the cinder block wall outside the business.

Hoof Hearted and Seventh Son both serve craft beer.

Look no further than Seventh Son and Hoof Hearted for a slick spot for chilled artisan brews and IPAs. Hoof Hearted boasts 11 beers on tap, including double and triple IPAs dubbed “Everybody Wants Some” and “Can I Ask You a Personal Question?” Seventh Son’s eponymous American strong ale, as well as the Humulus Nimbus pale ale, are popular choices.

Aside from beer, Hoof Hearted is popular for its food, which includes the Spring Ballz and the Dad Bod Double Cheeseburger. And, during the warmer months, when the garage doors are open for patio access, Seventh Son is a terrific site.

Look at Some Architecture

As an area that has historically battled to preserve its ancient properties, Italian Village has managed to retain some of the unique architectural aspects of the old while blending with the modern. The row houses at East Russell and Kerr streets, as well as the lovely St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church on Hamlet, are great places to see the old. Check out the urban redevelopment project at 50-2 Brickel Street or any of the freshly built residences at Jeffrey Park for something new.

Ride Your Bike

Along with its architecture, Italian Village is notable for its tiny, brick-paved streets. With the addition of bike lanes on Summit and Fourth streets in recent years, the region is ideal for a leisurely bike ride.
